About me - Snakey Sue

I have worked as a professional Belly Dancer since 1978 and a Snake Dancer from 1994.  I have been running a sanctuary for people’s unwanted pet snakes since 1996 and I have approximately 60 snakes at any time. The sanctuary is a “Not for Profit” facility  – see “Snakey Sue’s Serpent Sanctuary” by clicking through on the link to my website below.

About my talks and demonstrations

All of my presentations are stand alone (no projectors/laptops or slides) and I can talk either with or without my snakes being present.

Over the years I have travelled all over the country and abroad with my snakes entertaining audiences of all sizes. Public Liability Insurance is with the actors union “Equity” I have been a member since 1979. I have a risk assessment available and I have a Performing Animals Licence (although none of my snakes perform tricks some hotels/venues require to see the Performing Animals documentation).

Fee:

The fee varies according to the talk, starting at £60 within ten miles of my home address in Harwich, Essex. Precise details are shown with each talk. The fee quoted is for an audience of approx 30 people, please contact me to discuss my charges for a larger audience. Travel expenses are 45p per mile from my home address.  Beyond a three hour drive I would need to factor in an overnight stay.
I (and my snakes) may be available at short notice – it is worth contacting me if you have been let down by a speaker.

Snakes Aren't Sneaky

This is a light-hearted and informative talk and it is suitable for all age groups. We bring a few of our snakes along with us to participate in the presentation and time is spent introducing them to your group’s members so that they can ‘get up close and personal’. Indeed, our snakes are affable and docile creatures and once the audience handles them and realise this, we find that they are quite reluctant to give them over to their neighbour.
Snakes have thrived on earth for millions of years and although they have earned a mostly undeserved reputation for being dangerous they were in Greek times associated with medicine, healing and therapy….. there’s more about that in the talk!

Note:Sue will bring up to 8 snakes (non venomous) and a volunteer helper.
Because most people, once they get used to the idea, DO want to experience holding a live snake the talk can often extend for longer than an hour.

Fee £80.00 plus travel.

Snake Educational Talk - This talk is without snakes

This is an educational talk about snakes. The talk lasts 45 minutes and although there are no snakes present I bring along related items such as hatched snakes eggs and shed snake-skins.

I don’t just talk ….. I like my audience to ask questions too, facts are easier to remember if you asked the question first, most people have many questions to ask about snakes and this part of the talk can become very lively.

Fee: £60 plus travel.

Snakey Sue’s Belly Dance Talk and Demonstration

Sue trained as a Belly Dancer in 1974 and became professional in 1978. As she talks about her career she plays the music that she danced to at that time i.e. Turkish, Greek, Arabic – so she performs three short dances interspersed with her talk. She includes the use of finger cymbals and a veil. Sue also encourages members of the audience to ‘have a go’ at the end of her presentation and she brings along a basket full of veils for this purpose.

Fee for this presentation is £80 plus travel.

Snakey Sue’s Snake Dance Talk and Demonstration

Sue began Snake Dancing in 1994, she has taken her dancing snake to Palma, Majorca and all over the UK. This talk is 30 minutes plus a 10 minute dance performance including a snake which people usually like to meet after the performance.
