My talks are video projector presentations and last between 45 minutes and an hour. I provide the laptop and projector and if the venue can provide a wall or screen for projection purposes, we're all set! I am based in Salisbury, Wiltshire and I am happy to travel to give my talks. I have experience in speaking to all ages in many different environments. Womens' Institutes, Probus Clubs, Soroptimists, the Lions, Red Hat Societies, Rotary Clubs, schools and other organisations are all very welcome to contact me at cdoughertytalks@gmail.com to discuss potential events. If you need a speaker at short notice, I may be able to help out.
My Talks
Eggs, Effigies and Education: The Sometimes Scandalous History of Women at Cambridge
We begin with a tale of murder in 1208 and romp through 800 years of history covering riots, dramatic votes and the power of the Queen Mother along the way. For Women's Institute talks this journey ends with a W.I. 'twist'!
The Women of Alcatraz
Alcatraz: famous as the home of some of America's most vicious gangsters, the Birdman and Al Capone amongst them, but also home sweet home to women for over a century. This talk explores some of their tales, from army families to prison visitors, mermaids to guards - explore what it was like to live on Pelican Island, aka 'The Rock'.
