Glenda Hunter

- National Trust Speaker-

a member of the National Trust Volunteer Talks Service

Glenda Hunter National Trust Speaker

About me: For seven years I was a guide at Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal near Ripon in North Yorkshire, a National Trust property and Yorkshire’s first World Heritage Site.

About my talks: I am now delighted to offer illustrated talks (PowerPoint presentations) on all aspects of this 800 acre estate, one of my most favourite places, introducing my audience to some of my personal WOW factors along the way. I can often help out at short notice.

I bring my own laptop and projector but would ask for the use of a screen (or blank white wall). Extension cables are useful but I can always supply my own.

My Talks

Glenda Hunter Public Speaker - Fountains Abbey

Desolation to Dissolution

Fountains Abbey talk by Glena Hunter

The rags to riches tale of the magnificent, ruined monastic retreat of Fountains Abbey, for 400 years the principal Cistercian house in England and now the largest Cistercian ruin in the country

This talk last 45 minutes, with an abridged version of 30 minutes.

Wild Hostile Spot to World Heritage Site

.

Pictorially stroll through the entire estate with history carved into every stone and nurtured onto every blade of grass and learn how the ruined religious establishment of Fountains Abbey united with its next door neighbour-the 18th century pleasure gardens at Studley Royal - to become Yorkshire’s first World Heritage Site.

This talk lasts approximately 60  minutes-no shorter version available.

The 18th Century Wonder of the North

Glena Hunter Public Speaker

Visit a Regency pleasure park that still entrances and delights today and see why the National Trust property of Studley Royal receives over 350,000 visitors every year, Hear about how the park was designed as well as the scandal that surrounded its most famous owner, John Aislable, Chancellor of the Exchequer at the time of the South Sea Bubble,

This talk last 45 minutes, with an abridged version of 30 minutes.

St. Mary’s Church, Studley Royal–Architectural Hidden Gem

Mary Hope Public Speaker St Mary's Church

An ecclesiastical masterpiece of high Gothic Victorian architecture that rightly deserves its place in the 1000 most significant churches in the country. Appreciate its highly decorated interior designed by William Burges, a true medievalist, who also designed Castle Coch and Cardiff Castle in Wales.

This talk last approximately 35 minutes.

What does a talk cost?

I offer my talks on a voluntary basis and do not charge a fee, but as the National Trust is an independent registered charity (205846) I would be pleased to receive a donation to support their work and would suggest a minimum donation of £1.50 per head. I would ask also that my travelling expenses of 35p per mile be paid.

Area Covered:-

I live in Harrogate, North Yorkshire and am happy to travel to venues within North and West Yorkshire and East Lancashire
