About me...

Formerly journalist and businessman, I am now an author and publisher. I’ve travelled to the farthest corners of the world and even to the Moon (!) to research my books and talks. My wife, Viv, accompanies me on most of these epic adventures, riding a motorbike of her own and emerging as the heroine of the story. For my Moon mission I narrowly avoided being shot into space by calling on experts from NASA and Moscow instead.

About my Talks...

My talks are all Power Point presentations and I use around 60 illustrations in each talk. The Mother Moon talk is also available as a stand-alone if required (see below). I can supply my own equipment though I’m happy to use in-house equipment when it is available. Talks usually last between 40 and 60 minutes and can be split for a tea break if required. I’m happy to provide a Q&A session at the end of the talk. I also bring along some books and support materials, so a display table would be welcomed for these. STAND ALONE: I can also provide an unsupported stand-alone talk for Mother Moon. It can be anything from 30-60 minutes long, as required. SHORT NOTICE: I’m often available at short notice, so give me a call if you are stuck.

Fee:

My fee is £45 within ten miles of my home in Aylsham, Norfolk. If the venue is further afield a modest mileage charge of 30p per mile will apply to help towards my travelling expenses.

Mother Moon

Public Speaker in Norfolk Bob Green presents his talk Mother Moon

Between 1969 and 1972, twelve American astronauts walked on the Moon, so why don’t we have a base there? We have the technology to create a permanent human settlement, to advance scientific knowledge and create a stepping stone for onwards exploration throughout the solar system. So what’s stopping us? And what are the pros and cons of a Moon colony?

The recent discovery of plentiful water ice at the lunar poles, together with continuous solar power at the polar mountain tops, make the Moon the obvious first destination for an off-planet human colony. With the growing realisation that planet Earth is vulnerable to asteroid and comet impacts, should we colonise the Moon to ensure the human species is safe from extinction?

This talk can be delivered as an illustrated 40-60 minute Power Point presentation, or as a 30-60 minute stand-alone (un-illustrated) presentation.

Insider Cyprus

Public Speaker in Norfolk Bob Green presents his talk Insider Cyprus.

They call Cyprus the Island of Love, but what is the secret charm of Aphrodite’s birthplace? What makes this sun-kissed Mediterranean island such a magnet for the British, that 70,000 of us now live there?

Probably not its location, perched precariously between Turkey, Lebanon, Syria and Libya. Probably not its turbulent past. Cyprus has been invaded and conquered by Greeks, Phoenicians, Assyrians, Egyptians, Persians, Macedonians, Romans, Arabs, Crusaders, Venetians, Ottomans, British and Turks! Nicosia remains the only capital in the world which is divided between two nations. So what is the attraction?

For nearly 20 years we have owned a traditional stone cottage in the smallest village in Cyprus, hidden halfway up the Troodos mountains. It’s a place where people still go to work on a donkey, herd their goats on the hillside and crush their grapes by foot. In this talk I reveal what it’s like to live in a land rich in history and culture and why you must never take olive oil to your neighbour after dark. This is an illustrated 40-60 minute Power Point presentation.

Beyond Bucharest

Public Speaker in Norfolk Bob Green presents his talk Beyond Bucharest.

What would persuade a Norfolk grandma to put down her knitting, leap astride a thundering great motorcycle and head over the Alps to Romania and Bulgaria? Turns out it’s a love of children, a desire to meet a sponsored child and provide support for a children’s charity.

As that grandma’s husband, who had to jump on his own motorbike and try to keep up, I can report that riding through Eastern Europe is not for the faint hearted. Besides atrocious roads, unsafe vehicles and suicidal driving, summer storms can be seriously life-threatening. Sixty-two people died from the storm that hit Bucharest, Romania’s capital, as we tried to negotiate its broken roads and terrifying traffic, yet somehow we survived to tell the tale.

Ride with us on the Road to Hell, into the City of Nightmares and beyond. Join us for an inadvertent night in a Romanian brothel! Laugh with us at the absurdities of life on the road. Hop on board for the adventure of a lifetime… and hold on tight!

This is an illustrated 40-60 minute Power Point presentation.

Land Of The Long Wild Road

Public Speaker in Norfolk Bob Green presents his talk Land Of The Long Wild Road.

New Zealand is a country of extraordinary beauty and unspoiled wilderness. This is an off-beat and humorous journey into parts of kiwi-land that most of the locals never get to see. Two small off-road motorcycles allowed us to explore the old Maori tracks, sheep-drovers’ routes and gold-miners’ trails of the land of the long white cloud.

With hilarious encounters and manic mishaps, we survived three months and 11,000 kilometres of frequent soakings and occasional roastings. Lured onwards by the rugged landscape’s wild roads we traversed rain forests and desert trails, up volcanoes and through river beds.

In remote outposts, sheep stations and rustic towns we met larger than life characters who offered old fashioned friendship, wonderful hospitality and endless entertainment.

Full of vivid flashbacks and improbably bodge-ups, this is a humorous take on life, New Zealand and adventure. It became a voyage of discovery of ourselves as much as the land down under. Climb on board for the ride of your life.

This is an illustrated 40-60 minute Power Point presentation.
