About me...

I was a Civil Servant for 37 years working in various Government Departments. Since retirement in 2009, I have developed varied interests – medieval history, lost rivers of London and music are just some. I play the piano, duet in clubs and sing in a Community Choir.
Seeing the world has taken me to fascinating and faraway places like Peru, Hawaii, Tanzania and Antarctica. I have enjoyed cruising across vast oceans, marvelling at the sea’s capricious nature, the constantly changing vistas and observing wildlife.
Boxing, cricket, tennis and football are my main sporting interests. I am a qualified FA coach and scout for an agency. I also enjoy quizzes and am always trying to broaden my knowledge.
A key aspect of my retirement has been volunteering – first as a Reader in a primary school and then participating in a project developing walks on the River Wandle, in Croydon. Now, through the U3A and Kingston University I’m researching old theatres.

An Antarctic Odyssey

It was a childhood dream to visit Antarctica and I realised this in 2017. With my wife and close friends, I cruised from Buenos Aires to Antarctica via Tierra del Fuego and onwards to Elephant Island, the Falklands, Punta Tombo Nature Reserve (Argentina) and Montevideo.
The thirty minute, narrated Powerpoint slideshow dips into the history of Polar exploration, South American fauna, the Falklands War, wildlife in the Weddell Sea and Southern Atlantic Ocean plus a little Uruguayan and Argentine history. It clearly charts our voyage and is accompanied by stunning photography.
