Location: Chelmsford Essex
About the Speaker...

Jane is a bubbly, outgoing personality who warmly delivers her talks with humour. Her first passion is her family featuring two very spirited sons, one of whom travels the world with Cirque du Soleil! Her other passion is the great British tradition of afternoon tea and in 2011 she set up The English Cream Tea Company after a chance conversation with an elderly lady who loved afternoon tea but was no longer able to go out for her favourite treat! Jane rapidly set about finding a way to create, pack and send the whole luxury tea in a hamper box straight to UK doors. Since then, she and her wonderful team (the Scone Gnomes!) have had quite a ride with people from all over the world interested. This has included being filmed for Taiwan and Russia…BBC TV, BBC 2, BBC Radio, Sunday Times, The Guardian, Woman and Home magazine, Essex Life, Woman magazine and lots more on her big scone-filled adventure (which includes gaining a Guinness World Record for the largest English Cream Tea party). Jane also makes videos on etiquette for YouTube, has given a TEDx talk and has written 3 books with the latest becoming an Amazon best seller. Jane says she would rather write a book any day, than do the hoovering!

Scone or Scon(e) - The Essential Guide to British Afternoon Tea

Public Speaker Jane Malyon presents her talk The Creation of a Very British Business

Scone or Scon(e) – the essential guide to British Afternoon Tea is also the title of my book.

I am the Chief Scone Gnome for The English Cream Tea Company.

I’m an expert in teatime manners, have given a TEDx talk called How Afternoon Tea Could Save The World and gained the Guinness World Record for the largest tea party!

During the talk, Jane will be ‘testing’ the audience’s teatime manners in a interactive and light-hearted way – to find out if our mothers taught us anything at all!  She will be bringing copies of her book, available to sign and sell if that’s of interest.

Confessions of a Mass Caterer

Public Speaker Jane Malyon talks about 'The confessions of a mass caterer'

Having run an outside catering company for over 30 years, Jane shares some extraordinary, funny and often eyebrow-raising experiences of catering for riotous groups such as the Young Farmers and rugby clubs, through to catering for members of the Royal Family….or even wedding receptions which end in tears and the guests being sent home half way through the meal!

Standalone talk.

The Creation of a Very British Business

Public Speaker Jane Malyon presents her talk The Creation of a Very British Business

Jane Malyon set up The English Cream Tea Company in 2011 never having made a scone in her life previously….and the journey has been remarkable. From her talking to companies who move human organs around for operations to be able to emulate their methods for her nationwide afternoon tea deliveries, to being made to write an essay called The Life Of A Carrot by the Environmental Health Dept, or having court proceedings commenced against her for selling Sultana Scones! Jane talks of her battles including that of wanting to be called The English Cream Tea Company after Companies House rejected the application on the grounds of the word The (“you’re THE English Cream Tea Company) and the word ENGLISH (“what – you’re the size of British Gas and can represent the whole country?). She has since been invited to government meetings to represent micro-businesses, been mentioned in Hansard, been on BBC TV 6 times, won a Business Woman of the Year award, had a whole page in the Sunday Times business section and more – and has exported to 7 countries so far.
