about my books

Colour Slide Lectures

Mary Queen of Scots  -   based on my book On the Trail of Mary Queen of Scots  and covering her life, times and the many sites connected with her story (these include many places in the Midlands and beyond).

The Heart of England -  a tour around one of the most beautiful regions of  England, describing the landscape, history and heritage.

The Black Country - Tourist Destination -  a journey around the four Black Country boroughs to discover local visitor attractions –often based on local industrial heritage. This is interspersed with interesting tit bits and amusing stories.

The Pilgrim Fathers - based on my book On the Trail of The Pilgrim Fathers – the origins of the early Separatist movement in England and their quest for religious freedom – first in Holland, then New World, including many associated sites.

John Wesley and Early Methodism - based on my book On the Trail of John Wesley – the life, faith and travels of the pioneer of Methodism including many Methodist heritage sites connected with his journeyings both within the U.K. and America. (Sites covered include Black Country and Shropshire).

The Life and Works of William Shakespeare - based on my book On the Trail of William Shakespeare, describing Shakespeare`s story and sites connected with his life. (As well as his life, the lecture includes what has happened in Stratford-upon-Avon since his death i.e. building of Royal Shakespeare Theatres and also the concept of the new Shakespeare`s Globe Theatre in London etc.)

The Beauty and Heritage of Scotland - a colour slide show of Scotland and its many historic attractions and scenic grandeur. I am also an accomplished baritone singer of Scottish songs and often intersperse the slides with one or two of these -provided a piano is available and my pianist can also make the date.

Talks

My Colourful Career in Tourism - an upbeat chat about some of my experiences in Tourism (often controversial, sometimes cheeky, but always innovative) in over 30 years of marketing urban tourism in the City of Sheffield, The Black Country and beyond. Ideal for after-dinner engagements.

Working With the Media - my experiences working within Tourism but using the Media as an important promotional tool.
