About me...
Having bought my first guitar many, many years ago and worked as a stagehand at Crewe Lyceum Theatre after school, I knew exactly what I wanted to do as a career. I wanted to entertain people with my voice and guitar. The careers people at my school didn’t seem to be on the same wavelength, but eventually I became a professional musician and singer at the ripe old age of nineteen.
Hard work and perseverance paid off and I eventually recorded at Abbey Road, did Radio Luxemburg, Granada TV and travelled the length and breadth of Europe. Later on in life I became a teacher of English, music and drama which gave me another string to my bow! During this time I wrote and presented my Childrens’ Songs for BBC Educational Radio.
About my Talk...
I am completely self sufficient – no props needed, just me, my guitar, my banjo and my stool.
Sometimes, when necessary, I will use my own small amplifier. Although my presentation ‘Band on the Road’ is predominantly a talk (scroll down for more details) I accept all requests for 1950’s and 1960’s songs from my audience and I can usually manage the singer if not the specific song. My talk can last up to 75 minutes but about one hour is normal – though I can fit in with whatever you require. Short notice work a speciality.
I can provide a virtual presentation (zoom)
Fee:
My fee ranges from £60 to £100 depending on timings and distance from my home in Ashover Derbyshire. Besides venues in Derbyshire, Cheshire, Staffordshire, Leicestershire, Nottinghamshire and Yorkshire I am prepared to travel anywhere in England provided appropriate travelling costs are met and when necessary, overnight accommodation is paid for.
