My lecture is illustrated with photos and video clips and I supply all of the equipment including a screen where necessary. I am based in Lincolnshire and will travel anywhere in UK. I am a full time magician and so I am used to entertaining people. I have given talks and entertained people at all types of venues and for all types of functions including after-dinner engagements, charity events, National Trust, Rotary, PROBUS, TWG, WI, U3A and of course Magic Circles and Magic Societies. My talk last between 45 and 90 minutes the latter with a break) depending on what is required. All of my equipment is PAT compliant.
David Nixon: Entertainer with the Magic Touch
A multi-facetted presentation

david nixon autobiography by steve short
For more than twenty years, millions of British television viewers tuned in to watch a true wizard at work. As a panellist on What's My Line? or as the host of It's Magic and many other shows, David Nixon was not just a magician, but a peerless performer whose warmth and wit made him a natural star. Using a powerpoint presentation, I will show many unseen photos telling the life of the gentle giant of magic.
The second half of the presentation is highlights of David’s TV shows.
David's personal life was one touched by tragedy. Yet for all his mastery of illusion - the mind-reading Nap Hand card trick or the mysterious mid-air disappearance of a lady in the Dizzy Limit - the easygoing on-screen image that made him a friend to every viewer was no deception, but a true reflection of a hardworking optimist who lived to entertain

Reviews about my David Nixon talk

The year began for us in fine style with a lecture by Steve Short on the legendary David Nixon. This proved to be a very enjoyable look at his career and life.
It also proved to be a nostalgic experience as we relived some of the memories of his much loved shows.
I would recommend Steve’s lecture to anyone wishing to have something different for their meetings.

The Order Of The Magi held an excellent meeting when Steve Short related ‘The David Nixon Story’.
Steve had evidently researched the subject well and in a warm sincere manner told the story from David’s early life through to his untimely death in 1978.
This was a thoroughly professionally presented evening on one of magic’s greats, highly recommended for any society.

Thank you very much for your most interesting talk on the life of David Nixon. You certainly have done a great deal of research and it was wonderful to learn of David’s background, his family and his magical life.

Robert Rae

Thank you for a wonderful evening, it re-kindled many happy memories and I know Ken would have felt just as I do, it was beautifully and tastefully put together and delivered with true sincerity.
I shall look forward to the book.

Book release November 2009
David Nixon: Entertainer with the Magic Touch tells the story of a remarkable life: how David's childhood fascination with conjuring tricks led to wartime adventures with ENSA, and how he rose from running concert parties to being the nation's best-loved star.
For the first time, Edwin A. Dawes and Stephen Short have interviewed David's many friends and loved ones to present a full portrait of his life. Lavishly illustrated using family photographs, publicity posters and television stills, David Nixon: Entertainer with the Magic Touch is a truly enchanting book.
